Description:
Trench with a wide, V-shaped section. Sloping sides and surrounded by very thick vegetation (holly). The floor of the trench is flattish and covered by grass, leaf litter and modern rubbish. Three segments of the trench were documented. Trench F987 may the a northern section of F989. Segment 1 (northern): 18.815m Segment 2 (central): 18.384m Segment 3 (southern): 40.169m Segment 1 ends at the south with a baulk or a turn towards the beach (although this may be modern disturbance). Then there is a modern water run-off feature or a beach access 'ramp' made of earth that ends near the remains of a reinforced concrete structure (a WWII bunker or pillbox?). After the disturbed area the trench continues south but is more indistinct. This section of trench (Segment 2) runs amid pine trees and is covered with pine needles. There is a dugout located to the west of the trench, overlooking the beach (F990). Segment 2
