Description:

Trench. Long trench, major trench running east-west along the northern edge of the plateau. Runs from junction with trench F1023 approximately east-west, zig-zagging along the northern cliff edge of the plateau. Thick holly coverage and leaf litter. Good preservation near trench F1023. Further to the west there are large stones in the trench and along the northern side that may have been part of a structure, or perhaps a fortification of the trench. The tranch has a flat, wide floor that is even and covered with leaf litter. The sides vary from steep to flatter - there are lower sloping sides in the more eroded areas. Trench continues zig-zaggin along the edge of the cliff, heading west. It is partially eroded out at one point near the cliff edge. There are excellent views to Ari Burnu, North Beach and the ACS site and along the whole coast up to Suvla Bay. The Sphinx is also very close here and there is a good view of it. Trench is interrupted by a modern track, then continues to the west. There is a large position or dugout on the ridge to the NW. The trench is destroyed at the modern viewing platform. There are two junctions with trenches heading south (F1028? and F1031?) partway along the trench. Artefact (metal food can A1156) found partway long the trench.
