Description:
Shell case. Small diameter metal cylinder with a recessed band around the base. There is heavy ferrous oxidation and spalling of large layers of oxidised metal that were from an outer layer composed of a different type of metal. The recessed band also appears to have a different type of oxidised metal. This band was 1cm wide and was 3.9cm from the base. There was a screw thread visible inside the top of the shell. Part of artefact cache (F871) - all metal artefacts. Located under a bush on southern side of the New Zealand track amongst thick vegetation.
