Description:
Unexpended cartridges: 7 bullet cartridges found cemented together in a pebbly accretion. The sides of some bullets have been broken or sheared off along the sides, exposing the cordite charge (long, cylindrical, brown fibres) in the cartridges. The cartridges and bullets have greenish coloured oxidation on the exposed surfaces. There is also some ferrous oxidation staining the base of the accretion, which may have been from a corroded stripper clip to which the cartridges were originally attached. The bullets have pointed noses, are long and slender, and have bronze-coloured jackets that has green oxidation in places. The shape of the cartridge cases and the material of the bullet jackets is consistent with.303 Short Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle cartridges. Cartridge 1: 7.75cm long overall.
