Description:
Metal disc or cap with screw thread (A098, F264) appears to be made of a copper alloy with some green oxidation, and is circular, 3.55cm diameter x 1.55cm high. It is circular with a slightly domed top that has four small circular drilled holes around the centre and one at the side. The top, domed section is 0.62cm high. The base is smaller, 2.8cm diameter, with a screw thread around the outside, 0.65cm high, and a circular recess in the centre. The thickness of the cap is 0.5 cm. It was possibly a component of a grenade or the base of an artillery or naval shell fuse. (Possibly an oil bottle cap from a Lee-Enfield rifle?)
